A CARBON IMPACT INITIATIVE
Launching in October 2026
The centre is an independent body intended to serve as a tool in support of the SNBC 3 objectives for the BioCCS sector.
One mission: to build the roadmap for reaching the SNBC 3 objectives: 16 Mt of BioCCS by 2050.
16Mt
of BioCCS by 2050
To structure the sector, the centre works on 3 main areas:
Bringing together the players needed to reach scale:
- Biogenic CO2 emitters
- Credit buyers
- Technology providers
- Geological storage players
- Industrial and energy players
- Academic partners
Pooling existing knowledge
Starting with lessons learned in France and Europe: value chains, financing, partnerships, certifications, etc.
- CO2 Energie AG project with Regionalwerke Baden in Switzerland, in partnership with Airfix / Southpole
- CO2RR research project, funded by the EU and ADEME, which facilitates the build-up of BioCCS value chains across Europe knowledge hub
- Néostock project on geological storage of CO2
- BioCO2 Nancy project
Offering a range of services to help companies understand and integrate BioCCS
Awareness-raising and conferences
- Carbon, the long term, and the mandate of decision-makers
- The role of carbon removal in climate strategy
- Site visits
Training modules
- Carbon removal: understanding, assessing, deciding
- SNBC 3 and the development of the sector
- Biogenic carbon management
- Developing a BioCCS project
Structuring a roadmap for France
How do we reach 16 Mt of biogenic CO2 stored per year by 2050?
The members of the BioCCS Centre will help build a national roadmap, with concrete recommendations on, in particular:
- the timeline for scaling up volumes
- the regional breakdown of the SNBC 3 objectives
- the investment required and the financing options
- the integration of BioCCS into the sectors concerned: biogas, incineration, paper, breweries and other bioeconomy industries
- the use of CO2 and the circularity of the bioeconomy
- the role of regions, local authorities, large companies and emitters
- the options for storing biogenic CO2 in France and abroad
- local acceptability and the conditions for deployment across the regions
