Carbon Removal Developers

NOW IS THE TIME FOR ACTION

Because we, humans, are too slow at decarbonizing our societies, Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) is becoming a necessity.

You are an industrial company burning or fermenting sustainably harversted biomass. The CO2 you generate has been taken out of the atmosphere by nature. We can capture this biogenic CO2 to generate quantifiable and verifiable negative emissions.

Together, let’s make it happen !

WHO WE ARE

We are an independent Carbon Removal developer. We use best in class technologies to support you in developing a profitable carbon capture activity on top of your current business. You can generate revenues from your emitted CO2 while drawing down atmospheric CO2 concentration.

We are a purpose driven company. We are convinced that negative emissions are part of the solution to climate change. Our aim is to capture and sequester carbon with you at megaton scale by 2030.

We provide end to end services and project development capabilities to biomass operators to enable them to capture and sequester CO2 from their power plants.

We work with leading academic and industry partners to provide state of the art solutions:

  • Regionalwerke Baden
  • University of Mons
  • New partners to be announced soon

OUR PARTNERS

Karim Rahmani

Based in beautiful Loire Valley in France, Karim is passionate about energy and climate. Trained as a civil engineer, he has worked for more than fifteen years in power generation both in Europe and the Middle East holding various strategic and operational positions at companies such as Rexel and General Electric. In 2020 he has decided to fully work on Carbon Impact.

Alexander Schnell

Alex holds a PhD in Material Science from the University of Lausanne (EPFL). The last 25 years he has worked on numerous power generation projects including improvement of combustion processes to reduce emissions. As a next challenge Alex wanted to actively contribute to the fight against climate change by using his experience and network. He knows how to turn complex projects into a success by integration of various disciplines and technologies.

We are mission driven and believe that businesses can have a positive role in society. Our goal is to contribute to climate change mitigation and hopefully one day start reducing atmospheric concentrations of CO2.

Our approach is based on science and grounded in evidence and facts.

WHAT IS CARBON DIOXIDE REMOVAL (CDR)

According to the IPCC the world needs to reach carbon neutrality around 2050 to avoid the worst effects of climate change.

CDR is an essential method to reach climate goals as some sectors such as heavy industry, agriculture and aviation will be difficult to fully decarbonize.
Also, CDR will be needed to ultimately bring back CO2 atmospheric concentration to a safer level.
Carbon Removal is a two steps process:

  • the first step is to capture CO2 from the atmosphere
  • the second step is to sequester it and keep it permanently out of the atmosphere

Many CDR methods exist for example:

  • Nature based such as planting trees or improving agricultural practices
  • Technical solutions such as Direct Air Capture
  • Bio Energy with Carbon Capture and Storage (now our focus area)

OUR APPROACH

This is how it works:

  • Plants capture CO2 from the atmosphere via photosynthesis
  • CO2 is captured from biomass power plants flue gases using specialized equipment that separates CO2 and purifies it
  • CO2 is liquefied for easy transport via road, rail or ship to its end destination
  • CO2 is permanently sequestered

We use two main sequestration methods:

  • Underground sequestration in deep geologic formations (such as saline aquifers or depleted hydrocarbon fields)
  • Sequestration via mineralization in recycled concrete aggregates and ready-mix concrete

Our processes are based on robust and verified methodologies to ensure the whole cycle is virtuous, does not harm to the environment and truly removes carbon.
